ABOUT LAST SUMMER AT BLUEFISH COVE BY JANE CHAMBERS

Set in 1979, Last Summer at Bluefish Cove tells the story of seven women summering in Bluefish Cove, a fictional lesbian colony on the northeast coast. The expected tranquility is upended when Eva, a recently divorced straight woman, arrives.

Written by Jane Chambers, Last Summer was the first mainstream play to portray a nuanced presentation of the lives of queer women. It debuted off-Broadway in 1980 at the Actors’ Playhouse in a production directed by Nyla Lyon and starring Jean Smart as Lil and Susan Slavin as Eva.
