Kansas City Biz Expands to New Location & Looking to Add Jobs

Bob Hamilton Plumbing, Heating, A/C, & Rooter broke ground last fall on a new location in Overland Park, KS. The new location will house a technician training center, office space, and meeting rooms. Bob Hamilton currently employs 145 people and is looking to add another 100 over the next 5 years.

Bob Hamilton’s plumbing business which began in his garage in 1983 and was staffed by himself and wife, Teresa, has seen the most growth over the past 5 years. “We have to keep up with customer demand. The only way we could keep up was by continuously adding really great people,” Hamilton said. Recently inducted into the Kansas City Chamber’s Top 10 Small Business Hall of Fame, and again included in Ingram’s Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in Kansas City, Hamilton expects that the unfinished building is already too small; “We had to stop and add a second floor but we’re already making plans for our next expansion.”

Hamilton will be rolling out a new electrical department later this month in hopes to be a, “one call does it all” service provider for his customers. “We work hard to make our service as convenient as possible for our customers. This is just another way to do so,” commented Hamilton, “People keep calling us for electrical services so we figured, why not?” While Hamilton hires trained and certified professionals for each of his departments, he also provides apprenticeships for those wanting to learn a trade. “It’s getting harder to find people interested in working with their hands. If they have a great attitude and ability to learn from others, we’ll train them.”

Besides technician positions, Hamilton plans to add numerous additional office and support staff over the next year.
