Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Amended for LGBT Individuals

THE MID-AMERICA GAY & LESBIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONGRATULATES THE UNIFIED GOVERNMENT OF WYANDOTTE COUNTY AND KANSAS CITY, KS, ON ITS ADOPTION OF NON-DISCRIMINATION PROTECTIONS FOR LGBT INDIVIDUALS

Kansas City, Missouri - Friday, June 1st, 2018 - Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce - On Thursday May 31, 2018, the Board of Commissioners of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS, unanimously approved amending anti-discrimination ordinances relating to practices in employment, housing, and public accommodations to add gender identity and sexual orientation to the protected categories.
 
The Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (Mid-America GLCC) congratulates the Unified Government for ensuring its LGBT citizens are protected by law. "Our membership has been absolutely clear that protecting LGBT employees, residents, and citizens is a business issue," explains Mid-America GLCC President Danny Zaslavsky, "and the addition of LGBT protections to this anti-discrimination ordinance helps make Wyandotte County a more attractive place to do business." 
 
The Mid-America GLCC has long supported non-discrimination protections for LGBT individuals. As noted in our 2018 Public Policy Platform, we promote “equal access to employment, housing, credit, public spaces and services, education, and government funded programs at all levels of government.” The Public Policy Platform is based on surveys and feedback from the chamber's membership.
